QUICK ANSWER

Remember These First

When the arena-wide attack winds up, move BEHIND the sword he leaves in the arena — it blocks the laser.

Zalmarath is huge, so hitbox reads can feel off — that is normal giant-boss behaviour, not always a bug.

After the kill, the Flame Ruby is the quest item for A Crown of Stone.

Why miss hits?

The giant model can make projectiles look like they pass through; confirm with hit feedback, not just visuals.

Sword cover?

He plants a sword; stand behind it during the arena-wide beam.

Platform?

The arena shrinks but does not instantly fail you — keep a safe edge, do not roll off.

BEFORE THE FIGHT

Pre-Fight Preparation Checklist

0 / 3 checked
DoneCheckWhy it mattersQuick fix
Physical defence

Most hits are giant physical swings.

Big telegraphed hits still delete low life.Life/armour and side positioning.
Fire resistance

The laser and some slams are Fire.

The arena-wide beam is fire pressure.Raise Fire res for the cover window.
Movement speed

You must reach the sword in time.

Slow characters get caught by the beam.Boots with movement speed.
4

ARENA READING

Arena Reading

The grotto is a platform arena. Zalmarath plants his sword mid-fight; that sword is your cover during the arena-wide Baleful Gaze beam.

The platform changes over the fight — edges may break, but you are not instantly failed. Keep a safe inner edge and never roll off.

  • Blue = safe inner edge. Orange = sword cover. Red = laser sweep. Green = add-clear lane.

PHASE BREAKDOWN

Phase Breakdown

Phase 1 · Phase 1: Initial Platform

Trigger: Fight starts at full health.

STRATEGY

Strategy and Key Mechanics

Sword Cover Mechanic — Zalmarath plants his sword; an arena-wide attack winds up; move behind the sword; the sword blocks the beam; after it ends, re-engage.

Reported Issues — separate three things: (1) normal giant hitbox reads, (2) visual misjudgement from the model size, (3) currently reproducible bugs. Do not treat a visual oddity as a standard strategy, and do not assume every old hitbox bug still exists.

Platform State — initial platform is complete; mid-fight the boss shifts and bolts increase; adds enter and box you; later edges break and safe space shrinks. Keep a safe inner edge; never roll off.

  • Melee: punish after the sweep, not during the beam.
  • Ranged: keep the sword in view so cover is always reachable.
  • If projectiles look like they pass through, confirm by hit feedback, not visuals.

PROBLEMS & DIRECT ANSWERS

Problems and Direct Answers

The laser deletes me every time.

Direct answer: You are not using the sword cover. Move behind the planted sword during the wind-up.

  1. Watch for the sword plant.
  2. Reach it before the beam fires.
  3. Raise Fire res for the window.
My skills look like they miss.

Direct answer: Confirm by hit feedback, not visuals — the giant model causes misreads. Reproducible bugs are separate from normal hitbox.

  1. Check damage numbers.
  2. Do not assume every oddity is a bug.
  3. Report consistent misses with proof.
I rolled off the platform.

Direct answer: Edges break but it is not instant fail. Keep a safe inner edge and never roll toward the broken edge.

  1. Stay inner.
  2. Clear adds blocking your path.
  3. Do not panic-roll at edges.
