Build Overview

This is not simply a shapeshift fantasy with a list of gems. The build has a repeatable resource loop: recover Rage, establish the temporary damage setup, start Rampage through dense packs, then use Maul or Furious Slam when the chain drops. If that loop is not stable, buying more damage will not make mapping feel consistent.

Treat the guide as two connected versions. Rampage Bear is the fast mapping route and asks you to manage Rage and animation commitment. Meteor Bear is the slower comparison route for players who value a more deliberate boss pattern. Do not mix their gear priorities until the core version already works.

Rampage is the default mapping route; Meteor Bear and Walking Calamity are documented as a later variant rather than merged into every stage.

  • Build Rage with Maul or the verified generator.
  • Use Rampage for movement and pack clear.
  • Spend Glory on Walking Calamity and use Furious Slam for stable single target.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Clear build identity and staged progression.
  • The primary loop has current 0.5 guide coverage.
  • The guide separates mapping and boss assumptions.

Cons

  • Several mechanics still need current-client reproduction.
  • Endgame creator setups can hide expensive dependencies.
  • Exact support and passive choices may change by variant.

Bear Transformation

Rampage is the default mapping route; Meteor Bear and Walking Calamity are documented as a later variant rather than merged into every stage.

  • Build Rage with Maul or the verified generator.
  • Use Rampage for movement and pack clear.
  • Spend Glory on Walking Calamity and use Furious Slam for stable single target.

Meteor Bear Variant

Walking Calamity is unavailable until its current gem tier and level requirement; level with Maul and Furious Slam first. The Bhatair's Vengeance interaction changed and needs direct testing.

  • Build Rage with Maul or the verified generator.
  • Use Rampage for movement and pack clear.
  • Spend Glory on Walking Calamity and use Furious Slam for stable single target.

Leveling

  1. Campaign start

Use a verified temporary setup and prioritize a functional weapon or spell focus.

  2. Core skill transition

Swap only after the current gem and resource requirements are met.

  3. Campaign end

Fix resistances, recovery and the main resource loop.

  4. Early maps

Adopt one documented variant instead of mixing endgame snapshots.

Ascendancy

  1. Provisional order

Follow the selected current guide, then confirm every node in the 0.5.4 client before publication.

Passive Tree

  1. Campaign

Take only nodes that support the current leveling skill and defensive requirements.

  2. Early maps

Move to the selected build variant; do not combine incompatible planner snapshots.

Gear

Primary damage slot

  • Appropriate skill levels or weapon damage
  • Variant-compatible modifiers

Do not copy an endgame item without its prerequisites.

Defensive armour

  • Life or the selected defence pool
  • Elemental resistances and recovery

Compare the whole defensive package.

Jewellery and utility

  • Attributes and resource sustain
  • Only verified build-specific modifiers

Prices are not fixed at this time.

Stat Priority

  1. Defensive baselineCap resistances and establish recovery first.
  2. Primary damage scalarUse the scalar shared by both planner and gameplay evidence.
  3. Resource sustainThe main loop must also work against a single target.
  4. Quality of lifeAdd speed or area only after the build is functional.

Upgrade Priority

  1. 1

    Fix defences and requirements.

  2. 2

    Upgrade the main damage slot.

  3. 3

    Stabilize resource generation.

  4. 4

Add the selected variant's core interaction.

  5. 5

Test luxury changes one at a time.

Mapping

Enter a pack with enough Rage to start the chain. Use Lunar Assault only when the extra-cold setup is available, activate Walking Calamity, then commit to Rampage through connected monster groups. Empty corridors are a resource problem: stop forcing Rampage and rebuild with Maul or Furious Slam.

Build Rage with Maul or the verified generator.

  • Build Rage with Maul or the verified generator.
  • Use Rampage for movement and pack clear.
  • Spend Glory on Walking Calamity and use Furious Slam for stable single target.

Bossing

Against a boss, separate setup time from damage time. Rebuild Rage before the arena becomes dangerous, apply the temporary buffs once, then attack only through a safe animation window. The community report below is useful because it exposes the common mismatch: the character can feel nearly unkillable while rares still take too long.

Troubleshooting

The core skill is unavailable

  • Check gem level, form, weapon set and equipment requirements.
  • Return to the documented transition stage.

Single-target loop stops

  • Remove kill-based assumptions.
  • Record every resource before and after the sequence.

Copied endgame gear feels worse

  • Check missing passives, supports and thresholds.
  • Rebuild from the lower verified stage.

Fix the build before spending more

Why does Rampage stop in the middle of a map?

Rampage is the payoff, not the resource generator. If you start it with weak Rage recovery or across disconnected packs, the chain naturally collapses.

  • Rebuild Rage with Maul or Furious Slam.
  • Do not spend the temporary buff in an empty corridor.
  • Check mana regeneration and leech before adding another damage unique.

I survive everything but rares take too long. What should I inspect?

Confirm melee gem levels, attack speed, flat physical or cold contribution, and the slot carrying the build-defining effect. A defensive amulet plus a weak offensive slot can make the character safe but inert.

  • Test one rare before and after each change.
  • Keep the same map tier so the comparison means something.

Should I swap to Meteor Bear?

Swap only if you prefer its positioning and cast-window rhythm. It is not an automatic upgrade to a broken Rampage loop; it is a different route with different failure modes.

What players actually report

These are attributed editorial paraphrases, not independent proof of DPS or survivability.

reddit · Editorial paraphrase

A Shaman player described the setup as extremely durable but initially short on damage, and reported a noticeable rare-killing improvement after changing the weak weapon or talisman slot to Fury of the King.

Useful as a troubleshooting clue: first inspect the damage-carrying slot and Rage loop instead of replacing the whole defensive shell.

Rampage Bear player report

guide · Editorial paraphrase

The maintained guide presents Rampage as the clear engine, calls out Rage management and animation commitment as the real weaknesses, and uses Maul or Furious Slam to recover when Rampage is unavailable.

This supports the rotation model, but item-specific numbers still need in-client reproduction.
