Build Overview
Twister is a sequence build. Whirling Slash builds a Whirlwind; Twister is released inside it and consumes the Whirlwind to spawn extra twisters with more damage. Ice-Tipped Arrows converts that damage to cold, Barrage spends Frenzy Charges for more projectiles, and a Dodge Roll (via Primal Bounty) empowers the next projectile skill. The build must be learned as ordered actions, not a list of strong gems.
The maintained planner lists non-crit and several crit variants, but those names hide the real gates: enough Spirit for the chosen package, a survivable body armour choice, reliable projectile behavior and a rotation that works without showcase-level gear.
The guide gives four explicit loops — simplified clear, full boss, pre-transition and post-gear — because a bare skill list is unusable. Treat advertised DPS as creator-specific until the planner and gameplay conditions reproduce.
- Mapping: keep the chosen Twister empowerment and run the simplified loop while moving.
- Bossing: prepare Parry, Whirlwind, cold and projectile setup before the Twister window.
- Treat advertised DPS as creator-specific until the planner and gameplay conditions reproduce.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Clear build identity and staged progression.
- The primary loop has current 0.5 guide coverage.
- The guide separates mapping and boss assumptions into ordered loops.
Cons
- Several mechanics still need current-client reproduction.
- Endgame creator setups can hide expensive dependencies (weapon sets, Sacred Unity).
- Exact support and passive choices may change by variant.
How the Loop Reads
The build has four different loops depending on context and gear. A bare skill list is unusable — the order is the build. The sections below give the actual sequence for each situation, not just a list of skills.
- Mapping = the simplified clear loop (flow while moving).
- Bossing = the full loop with Parry and repeated Twister.
- Pre-transition = a stripped loop before gear/level thresholds are met.
- Post-gear = the full loop with weapon-set swaps and Sacred Unity.
Simplified Clear Loop (Mapping)
The mapping loop is a flow you run while moving. It is the same order for trash and most rares. Exact counts and positions are pending PC verification.
- 1. Dodge Roll — triggers Primal Bounty, spending Owl Feathers to empower your next projectile skill.
- 2. Whirling Slash x3 — cap the Whirlwind that Twister will consume (community guides keep it low level for mana).
- 3. Ice-Tipped Arrows — empower the next attack to convert to cold and spawn ice fragments (use on cooldown).
- 4. Barrage (optional on white packs) — spend Frenzy Charges for extra Twister projectiles.
- 5. Twister — release while still standing inside the Whirlwind, then keep moving to drag twisters through the pack.
Full Boss Loop
On bosses, open the damage window, then run the full setup-and-release sequence. Several Twister rotations fit inside the Parry window.
- 0. Parry — opens a short 50%-more-attack-damage window on the boss (optional extended opener).
- 1. Dodge Roll — Primal Bounty trigger.
- 2. Whirling Slash x3 — cap the Whirlwind.
- 3. Ice-Tipped Arrows — cold empowerment.
- 4. Barrage — spend Frenzy Charges for projectiles.
- 5. Twister xN — released inside the Whirlwind; repeat the loop and re-Parry when the window ends.
Pre-Transition Loop (Before Gear/Level Thresholds)
Before the build is assembled — missing Twister empowerment, weapon sets, supports or mana — run a stripped loop. The exact numbers are pending PC verification (claims C1-C4).
- Whirling Slash once or twice (do not worry about capping if mana or level-limited).
- Twister released into the Whirlwind.
- Keep moving; skip Barrage, Ice-Tipped Arrows timing and Primal Bounty sync until thresholds are met.
- Priority is a functional, survivable loop, not maximum twisters.
Post-Gear-Formation Loop (Once Assembled)
Once the spear, supports, two weapon sets and the Sacred Unity trio (Vivid Stampede, Primal Bounty, Wild Protector) are allocated, the loop is the full boss sequence with weapon-set discipline.
- Swap to the setup weapon set (attack-speed spear) for Whirling Slash.
- Dodge Roll -> Whirling Slash x3 -> Ice-Tipped Arrows -> Barrage.
- Swap to the damage weapon set, then release Twister inside the Whirlwind.
- Vivid Stampede leaves Shocked Ground and Sacred Unity leaves Soaring Ground, keeping twisters buffed; repeat.
Create the line before the Twister

Leveling
Campaign start
Use a verified temporary setup and prioritize a functional weapon or spell focus.
Core skill transition
Unlock Twister and Whirling Slash, then swap only after the current gem and resource requirements are met (level requirement pending PC verification, claim C1).
Campaign end
Fix resistances, recovery and the main resource loop.
Early maps
Adopt one documented variant instead of mixing endgame snapshots.
Skills
Core skills
Why: It is the only skill that turns the Whirlwind and elemental ground into travelling area damage; the whole clear and boss output depends on it.
When to replace: Never replaced; every other skill exists to empower it.
Mapping vs Bossing: Mapping: fire inside the Whirlwind and keep moving to drag twisters through packs. Bossing: same release but inside the Parry/damage window and repeated for the fight.
Exact support links and gem levels are pending PC verification. Cast while still standing inside the Whirlwind or the bonus collapses.
Why: Provides the Whirlwind fuel for Twister; community guides keep it at low level for mana efficiency.
When to replace: Not replaced; it is a setup skill, not a damage competitor.
Mapping vs Bossing: Mapping and bossing both cast it (often x3 to cap); the difference is context, not usage.
Exact level and AoE breakpoint pending PC verification (claims C1/C4).
Auxiliary candidates
Why: Adds the cold layer that makes elemental-ground and freeze synergy observable on Twisters.
When to replace: Keep as a setup aid; swap only if a verified stronger cold enabler appears.
Mapping vs Bossing: Mapping: use on cooldown while moving. Bossing: apply inside the burst window before Twister.
Cooldown-based; may be bypassed by spending a Frenzy Charge.
Why: Converts stored Frenzy Charges into more Twister projectiles for bosses and dense packs.
When to replace: Boss/rare tool; optional on white packs.
Mapping vs Bossing: Mapping: optional on white packs. Bossing: fired during setup before Twister.
Why: Opens a short damage-taken window on the target that multiple Twister rotations fit inside.
When to replace: Keep for bossing; not needed on trash.
Mapping vs Bossing: Mapping: unused. Bossing: optional extended first step before the standard loop.
Part of an Act-1 setup that later gives way to smoother clear (per creator guides).
Why: Turns movement into area damage and Shocked Ground that empowers Twisters.
When to replace: Not replaced once allocated; it is a passive-style movement engine.
Mapping vs Bossing: Both: keep moving to generate Wisps and drag twisters; more relevant in mapping due to constant movement.
Part of the Sacred Unity trio (with Primal Bounty and Wild Protector).
Why: The Dodge Roll -> Primal Bounty trigger is what powers the burst Twister; timing it matters.
When to replace: Not replaced once allocated.
Mapping vs Bossing: Mapping: Dodge Roll on the move triggers it naturally. Bossing: time the Dodge Roll right before the Twister release.
Sync with Dodge Roll; missing the sync loses burst (per creator guides). Exact stacking pending PC verification.
Ascendancy
Provisional order
Allocate Vivid Stampede, Primal Bounty and Wild Protector to unlock Sacred Unity, then confirm every node in the 0.5.4 client before publication.
Passive Tree
Campaign
Take only nodes that support the current leveling skill and defensive requirements.
Early maps
Move to the selected build variant; do not combine incompatible planner snapshots.
Gear
Primary damage slot
Required
- Weapon base and Twister skill levels high enough for the tier — The primary progression check for clear and boss damage.
Recommended
- Variant-compatible damage modifiers (physical/cold/added) — Directly scales Twister hits.
Optional
- Attack speed / movement speed — Improves clear feel and whirlwind uptime.
Luxury
- Variant-exclusive crit or rarity affixes — Only after the variant is actually online and defenses hold.
- Appropriate skill levels or weapon damage
- Variant-compatible modifiers
Do not copy an endgame item without its prerequisites (weapon sets, supports).
Defensive armour
Required
- Life and uncapped resistances — No DPS compensates for dying in maps.
Recommended
- Selected defense pool (evasion/armour) and recovery — Completes the defensive shell.
Optional
- Movement speed where applicable — Helps reposition the firing line.
Luxury
- Explicit damage affixes — Only after the defensive baseline is solved.
- Life or the selected defence pool
- Elemental resistances and recovery
Compare the whole defensive package, not one slot.
Jewellery and utility
Required
- Attributes to equip the spear and gems — A spear you cannot equip is worthless.
Recommended
- Resistances and resource sustain (mana/life) — Keeps the loop running on bosses.
Optional
- Build-specific verified modifiers (move speed, Twister scaling) — Tailors jewellery to the build.
Luxury
- Rarity stacking (variant-dependent) — Conditional on the chosen endgame variant.
- Attributes and resource sustain
- Only verified build-specific modifiers
Prices are not fixed at this time; Mobalytics Verified is not our client verification.
Stat Priority
- Defensive baseline — Cap resistances and establish recovery first.
- Primary damage scalar — Use the scalar shared by both planner and gameplay evidence.
- Resource sustain — The main loop must also work against a single target.
- Quality of life — Add speed or area only after the build is functional.
Upgrade Priority
Clear feels slow on packs
Symptom: Normal packs take more than two or three Twister casts.
Check first:
- Is the spear still an under-tier base?
- Are resistances and life already solved (so the weapon is the real bottleneck)?
- Is the Whirlwind actually capped before releasing Twister?
Upgrade next: Upgrade the spear / confirm Whirlwind cap before touching jewellery or utility.
Dying in maps or boss arenas
Symptom: Frequent deaths in T15+ or boss fights.
Check first:
- Which resistances are uncapped?
- Is life/defense below the content tier?
- Are defensive layers active?
Upgrade next: Cap resistances and stabilize life/defense; do not buy damage gear to fix a defense problem.
Single-target loop stops
Symptom: Boss damage stalls or the loop breaks on a single target.
Check first:
- Are Ice-Tipped Arrows and Barrage active in the setup?
- Are Frenzy Charges available for Barrage?
- Did the Twister release happen inside the Whirlwind?
Upgrade next: Repair the setup order (Whirlwind -> Ice-Tipped -> Barrage -> Twister), not the weapon.
Copied endgame gear feels worse
Symptom: Imported endgame items perform below expectations.
Check first:
- Are missing passives, supports and thresholds present?
- Is the weapon-set configuration complete?
Upgrade next: Rebuild from the lower verified stage; do not mix incompatible planner snapshots.
Considering the crit / variant swap
Symptom: Want more damage and eyeing variant pieces.
Check first:
- Is non-crit clear, boss damage and defense stable?
- Will variant gear break resist caps or drop life?
Upgrade next: Move to the variant only after the checklist passes; retest, do not trade survival for a planner-only number.
Mapping
Map with the standard loop: Dodge Roll (Primal Bounty), Whirling Slash x3 to cap the Whirlwind, Ice-Tipped Arrows, then Twister released while still inside the Whirlwind. Keep moving so Vivid Stampede generates Shocked Ground and drags twisters through packs.
Drop Barrage on white packs; it is a rare/boss tool. Upgrade the spear the moment normal packs stop one- or two-cycling.
- Dodge -> Whirling Slash x3 -> Ice-Tipped Arrows -> Twister is the mapping rhythm.
- Skip Barrage on trash; it is a single-target tool.
- Reactive spear upgrade when clear speed drops.
Bossing
Open with Parry for the 50%-more-attack-damage window, then run the full loop: Dodge Roll (Primal Bounty), Whirling Slash x3, Ice-Tipped Arrows, Barrage (spending Frenzy Charges), and Twister released inside the Whirlwind. Several Twister rotations fit inside the Parry window.
If damage stalls, the problem is setup order (Whirlwind cap, Ice-Tipped Arrows, Barrage, release position), not the spear. Missing the Dodge/Primal Bounty sync loses burst.
- Parry -> Dodge -> Whirling Slash x3 -> Ice-Tipped Arrows -> Barrage -> Twister.
- Release Twister inside the Whirlwind or the bonus collapses.
- No damage = fix the setup, not the weapon.
Twister progression choices
| Starter non-crit | Early crit | Endgame crit | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Priority | Rotation and defenses | Reliable crit without Spirit loss | Damage, rarity or specialized gear |
| Body armour | Survivable rare | Upgrade only if defenses hold | Choose for the exact variant |
| Verify | Twister path hits targets | Crit change is measurable | Spirit and charge package remains active |
| Warning | Do not chase DPS labels | Do not copy half a variant | Showcase numbers are not our claim |
Staged Configuration
| Stage | Main Skill | Key Support | Passive Focus | Gear Goal | Transition Condition | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter (pre-Twister, L1-30) | Spear attack / leveling skill (temporary) | Basic attack supports | Life, resistances, attack speed | Any spear + life/resists | Unlock Twister at level 31 (pending PC) | |
| Twister unlocked (L31-50) | Twister | Whirling Slash (Whirlwind) | Twister/area nodes, first ascendancy | Spear with Twister levels, cap resists | Reach early maps with stable clear | |
| Early maps | Twister + Whirling Slash | Ice-Tipped Arrows, Vivid Stampede | Move-cast, area, elemental ground | Cap resists, life, a real spear | Survive T15+ and reliable clear | |
| Endgame / bossing | Empowered Twister | Barrage + Primal Bounty (Dodge), Parry | Full tree, Sacred Unity trio | Variant gear, two weapon sets | Boss damage reliable before variant swap |
Troubleshooting
The core skill is unavailable
- Check gem level, form, weapon set and equipment requirements.
- Return to the documented transition stage.
Single-target loop stops
- Remove kill-based assumptions.
- Record every resource before and after the sequence.
Copied endgame gear feels worse
- Check missing passives, supports and thresholds.
- Rebuild from the lower verified stage.
Projectile path and transition answers
Why does Twister miss a target standing beside me?
The projectile follows the prepared path and angle; proximity alone is not enough. Rebuild the Whirling Slash line and release Twister into the target's future position.
- Test in open terrain.
- Use one roll to correct the angle.
- Avoid judging the skill in a doorway.
Why did the crit version lose survivability or Spirit?
A crit swap often changes several slots. Compare body armour, amulet, belt, charge generation and Spirit reservation together, not just the weapon or passive tree.
What if I prefer a direct melee path?
Whirling Assault Martial Artist keeps the movement-heavy identity but centers damage on melee contact, bell windows and charge management.

Questions behind the showcase
The community thread is used to expose tradeoffs that a final planner can hide.
reddit · Editorial paraphrase
Players ask about chest survivability, the non-crit-to-crit change, charge or belt choices and missing Spirit, showing that the build's real transition cost is distributed across several systems.
The article therefore requires a whole-package comparison before a crit swap.
