QUICK ANSWER
Direct answers
How do I actually use a Precursor Tablet?
You cannot use a tablet straight from your inventory. You must find a Tower on the Atlas, clear it to activate its Precursor Beacon, and then place tablets into that Tower from the Atlas screen. Each Tower holds up to 3 tablets and they apply to every map inside its radius.
Why don't my maps show the tablet's effect?
Check three things: the target map must sit inside the Tower's radius, the tablet's remaining uses must not be exhausted, and the modifier must apply to that map. If all three are fine and the effect still does not appear, it may be a UI bug rather than a setup error.
Do tablets go into the Map Device?
No. The Map Device is where you slot a Waystone and actually run the map. Precursor Tablets are placed into the completed Tower from the Atlas screen, not into the Map Device.
VERSION CONFLICTS
Legacy tutorials vs the current version
Several older tutorials describe a tablet flow that no longer matches 0.5.4. Treat the following as outdated.
- Do not right-click a tablet onto a Tower nodeoutdated自 0.5.4
Older guides show right-clicking a tablet directly onto a tower node on the Atlas. In 0.5.4 you place tablets from the Atlas screen after clearing the tower, not by clicking the tablet in your inventory.
- There is no 'walk into the radius aura' stepoutdated自 0.5.4
Legacy explanations describe a radius aura you physically walk into to receive effects. Tablets now apply from the Tower on the Atlas screen to all maps in its radius; you never enter an aura.
OVERVIEW
The current tower and tablet flow
The 0.5.4 flow has four stages. First, you discover or find a Tower node on your Atlas. Second, you enter and clear the Tower map. Third, clearing the Tower activates a Precursor Beacon. Fourth, you place Precursor Tablets into that Tower from the Atlas screen.
A placed tablet modifies every map inside the Tower's radius. This is a regional system: one tablet can upgrade an entire cluster of maps at once, and tablets stack when multiple Towers overlap the same maps.
- You cannot use a tablet from your inventory on a tower directly.
- Tablets are placed from the Atlas screen, never from the Map Device or inventory.
- Each Tower holds up to 3 Precursor Tablets.
PREPARATION
How to find and reach a Tower
Towers appear as special map nodes on the Atlas. Early on, Doryani's quest line points you toward your first Precursor Tower, which in turn unlocks the central city region.
- Open the Atlas screen and look for the Tower node icon among your reachable maps.
- Towers revealed by fog typically sit on the edges of explored regions.
- Prioritise a Tower whose radius already covers the maps you plan to run.
- Clearing a Tower also grants Atlas passive points and a guaranteed tablet drop, so it is worth routing toward early.
OVERVIEW
Clearing the Tower
Enter the Tower map from the Atlas and defeat its content. Completing the Tower is what makes it usable for tablets.
- Use a Waystone of an appropriate tier for your character's power.
- Once cleared, the Tower node becomes a completed Tower on your Atlas.
- Completed Towers drop an extra Precursor Tablet as a clear reward.
OVERVIEW
The Precursor Beacon activates
After you clear the Tower, a Precursor Beacon activates. The beacon is what lets you open the Tower's tablet slots from the Atlas screen.
- You will see the Tower become interactable on the Atlas once the beacon is active.
- Only completed Towers (beacon active) can hold tablets.
- If the Tower shows no slots, re-check that the clear registered and the beacon is active.
OVERVIEW
Where Precursor Tablets come from
Precursor Tablets drop from monsters while you map. Mechanic-specific tablets have a higher drop chance from their own content: Breach tablets from Breach monsters, Expedition tablets from Expedition, and Overseer tablets from map bosses.
- Generic Precursor Tablets also drop from normal map monsters, though less often.
- Each completed Tower grants a guaranteed tablet drop.
- Tablets drop as normal, magic, or rare; rare tablets carry more modifiers.
- You can push tablet drops by adding the relevant modifier to your Waystones.
REFERENCE TABLE
Old tutorials vs the current version
Side-by-side of what legacy guides claimed and what 0.5.4 actually does.
| Step | Old tutorial | Current version | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apply tablet | Right-click tablet on tower node | Place from Atlas screen after clear | Clear tower, then open slots on Atlas |
| Get effect | Walk into radius aura | Applies to all maps in radius automatically | Keep target map inside the radius |
| Run the map | Tablet in map device | Waystone in Map Device, tablet in Tower | Use Map Device only for the Waystone |
| Charges | Unlimited while in tower | Consumed per map run; view remaining uses | Check remaining uses on the tablet |
Exact slot count and charge numbers are described against the live 0.5.4 Atlas and should be confirmed in-game.
PROGRESSION STEPS
Running the target map in the Map Device
Place the tablet in the Tower (Atlas screen)
Open the Atlas, select the completed Tower, and slot your Precursor Tablet(s) into its slots from the Atlas screen.
Open the Map Device
The Map Device is a separate interface where you run the actual map; it is not where tablets go.
Insert a Waystone for the target map
Choose a map that sits inside the Tower's radius and insert its Waystone into the Map Device.
Run the map
Launch the map. The tablet's modifiers apply because the map is inside the Tower's radius. Each run consumes one use of the tablet.
DIAGNOSTIC
Why is the tablet's mechanic not showing?
Pick the symptom. The tool points to the most likely cause.
OVERVIEW
How tablet modifiers stack
A Precursor Tablet's modifiers apply to all maps in the Tower's radius and combine with Waystone modifiers and Atlas passive bonuses.
- Tablet effects stack with Waystone affixes on the same map.
- Atlas passive nodes that boost tablet effect multiply the benefit.
- Overlapping two or three Towers over the same maps stacks their modifiers.
- Do not treat a tablet as a replacement for a Waystone; they are complementary.
CHECKLIST
Before you run the map
Confirm the radius
Make sure the target map is inside the Tower's radius on the Atlas screen.
Confirm remaining uses
Check the tablet shows remaining uses before you launch the run.
Confirm the target map
Insert the correct Waystone into the Map Device for a map inside the radius.
RISK / REWARD
Use the tablet now or save it?
A high-value tablet is tempting to hoard. Weigh the trade-off.
| 选择 | 危险等级 | 风险 | 收益 | 何时选 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Use a high-value tablet now | green | You spend a limited tablet run | Immediate juiced maps and a steady tablet return from farming | You are actively farming maps inside the radius |
| Save the tablet for later | yellow | Missed farming efficiency now; tablets may sit unused | Keep a strong tablet for a planned push | You are between farming sessions or lack a fitting radius |
| Never use rare tablets | red | Tablets pile up and expire in value as you out-level content | None - hoarding wastes the resource | Avoid this; use tablets to keep supply flowing |

Common player questions
Real questions players ask about the tower and tablet system.
I can't put the tablet in the tower
You cannot place a tablet from your inventory. Clear the Tower first so the Precursor Beacon activates, then slot tablets from the Atlas screen.
My tablet is not working
Most often the map is outside the radius, the uses are exhausted, or the Tower is not completed. Check all three before assuming a bug.

Troubleshooting the tower and tablet UI
Most tablet problems come from following an outdated tutorial, a misclick, or a genuine UI bug. Do not assume a single cause.
- Outdated tutorial: you followed a right-click or aura guide - use the Atlas-screen flow instead.
- Misclick: you tried to place the tablet from inventory - clear the Tower and use the Atlas screen.
- Bug: setup is correct but the effect is missing - re-open the Atlas and re-check, or re-log.
- Always verify radius, remaining uses, and map type together before blaming one factor.
PROBLEMS & ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a Precursor Tablet directly from my inventory?
No. You must clear the Tower to activate its Precursor Beacon, then place tablets into the Tower from the Atlas screen. Inventory placement does not work in 0.5.4.
How many tablets does a Tower hold?
A completed Tower holds up to 3 Precursor Tablets. The exact slot behaviour is described against the live 0.5.4 Atlas and should be confirmed in-game.
What happens to a tablet's uses?
A tablet is consumed per map run it applies to. View the remaining uses on the tablet in the Tower's slots; once it reaches zero the tablet is spent.
Can an Orb of Augmentation or Regal Orb upgrade a tablet?
An Orb of Augmentation can add a modifier to a Magic tablet. A Regal Orb cannot upgrade a tablet to Rare through normal use; tablet rarity behaviour should be verified against the current patch.
Do tablet modifiers stack with Waystones and Atlas passives?
Yes. Tablet modifiers apply to all maps in the Tower's radius and combine with Waystone affixes and Atlas passive bonuses, and stack across overlapping Towers.
