Charms: Amulet Sockets, Triggered Effects and Recharge

Charms are socketable items for an amulet's Charm Socket. Each grants a bonus that triggers automatically when its condition is met (low life, critical hit, ailment, and more), then recharges. This guide covers charm properties, how to obtain and socket them, and which charm fits which build.

QUICK ANSWER

Quick answer

Socket a Charm into your amulet's Charm Socket. When its trigger condition happens (e.g. you drop to Low Life, take a Critical Hit, or get an ailment), the charm's bonus fires automatically, then the charm recharges on a cooldown.

Charms are automatic - you do not press anything; the effect fires when the condition is met.

After triggering, the charm goes on cooldown and recharges, so it is a periodic safety net rather than a always-on buff.

Use for

A reactive defensive or utility layer on any amulet-wearing build.

Check first

Confirm your amulet has a Charm Socket (some need unlocking via quest or bench).

Avoid

Expecting a charm to act like a permanent aura - it triggers, then recharges.

ACQUISITION

How to get Charms

Charms enter the pool as endgame content tied to the amulet charm-socket system.

  1. Endgame drops

Charms drop from maps and bosses once the charm-socket content is available.

  2. Quest / unlock

Some amulets need a Charm Socket unlocked through a quest or bench step before a charm can be fitted.

  3. Trade

Buy specific charms from other players for the effect you want.

  4. Targeted farming

Community strategies (for example forcing 'Rite of Passage' style drops) can bias drops toward charm-related rewards.

6

USE FLOW

How to socket a Charm

  1. Unlock the socket

Make sure your amulet has a Charm Socket (quest or bench, depending on the item).

  2. Pick the charm

Choose a charm whose trigger and bonus match the danger your build actually faces.

  3. Socket it

Drag the charm into the amulet's Charm Socket like a gem.

  4. Confirm recharge

In combat, watch the charm fire on its condition and recharge afterwards.

7

ALTERNATIVES

Charms vs other options

Charms are often compared to Flasks. Flasks are active: you press them (or they auto-use) and they are consumed over their duration. Charms are passive and automatic: they fire on a condition and then recharge, so they cover the moment you forget to flask or cannot flask.

Charms are also distinct from Anointing (Distilled Emotions). Anointing grants a permanent Notable passive on the amulet; a charm grants a triggered, temporary bonus from the Charm Socket. They occupy different amulet systems and can coexist.

Against permanent auras or auras from skills, charms are weaker per-second but cost no mana and need no socket - they are a free reactive layer on top of your main setup.

  • Flask = active, consumed, you press it.
  • Charm = passive, automatic, recharges.
  • Anoint = permanent Notable; charm = triggered bonus (different socket).
  • Charm is a free reactive layer, not a main damage source.

BUILD USAGE

Which builds use which charm

Pick the charm by the failure mode your build actually dies to, not by raw numbers.

Glass-cannon attacker

Defensive charm triggering on Low Life for a Barrier or Endurance Charges.

Charge-stacking build

Offensive charm that grants Frenzy or Power Charges when the condition hits.

DoT / ailment build

Utility charm that cleanses the ailment on trigger.

Caster with mana issues

Utility charm restoring Mana when you take a Critical Hit or drop low.

forum not firingForum question

My charm never seems to trigger - is it broken?

Players felt their charm did nothing.
Editorial analysis

A charm only fires when its specific condition is met, then recharges. If the condition rarely happens in your content, the charm rarely fires - match the trigger to the danger you actually face.

Our answer

Choose a charm whose trigger matches the pressure your build meets.
