OVERVIEW
Quick summary
The druid framework is the mechanical heart of 0.4.0 it is not a single skill line but a system animal forms shapeshift primal skills that only function inside or around those forms lineage supports limited to primal skills and talisman weapons that gate the whole thing
Because the system touches skill ids weapon requirements and the passive tree at once old external druid builds break in three independent places this page isolates each failure and gives the current rule
- Druid arrives with oracle and shaman ascendancies
- Shapeshift uses talisman weapons not ordinary staves
- Primal skills and lineage supports are form gated
- 0.4.0i fixed the recently shapeshifted crit condition
- Pre 0.4.0 druid builds referenced a class that did not exist
SYSTEM ORIGIN
System origin
Shapeshift was designed from the start as a transform rather than a buff entering a form swaps your weapon set to the talisman s form affixes and enables primal skills that are otherwise inert
Lineage supports were introduced specifically to give primal skills a support tier that could not be copied onto generic skills keeping druid s identity distinct from other casters
- Animal form is a state not a toggle buff
- Primal skills require an active or recent form to deal their intended effect
- Lineage supports socket only into primal skills
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Historical context
Path of Exile 2 Early Access — 0.4.0 Druid framework
Current rules below are measured against client 0.5.4e.
Before 0.4.0 there was no druid so every druid build video from earlier eras is either speculative or refers to a different game s class
The framework shipped functionally complete but with a crit condition bug that 0.4.0i resolved within a month
- 0.4.0 full druid framework launch
- 0.4.0i shapeshift crit condition and talisman requirement fixes
IMPACT DASHBOARD
Class & ascendancy map
Druid (base class)
Still currentSelectable class in 0.5.4e; Shapeshift identity intact.
Oracle (ascendancy)
Still currentWard/prophecy-leaning Druid ascendancy; node cluster unchanged in identity.
Shaman (ascendancy)
Still currentElemental/summon-leaning Druid ascendancy.
Passive tree nodes
250+ added, still currentDruid-specific clusters exist; old 'no Druid nodes' guides are wrong.
BEFORE AFTER
Weapon & skill relationship
CHANGE EXPLORER
Passive tree impact
250+ Druid passive skills
New clusters for Shapeshift duration, Primal Skill effect, and form crit. Pre-0.4.0 passive planners had no such nodes.
Form-gating on passives
Some Druid passives only grant bonuses while transformed, a state the old tree could not represent.
CHANGE EXPLORER
0.4.x fixes that matter
0.4.0i 'recently Shapeshifted' crit
Crit condition now reliably procs after leaving a form, fixing Bear/Spriggan crit builds.
0.4.0i Talisman requirement checks
Client now correctly validates Talisman weapon requirements before enabling transform affixes.
Console crash fixes
0.4.0i resolved several client crashes on Xbox/PS5 during form swaps.
MIGRATION GUIDE
Build migration guide
- From: Old 'Druid' layout using a staff + generic supportsTo: Talisman weapon + Primal Skills + Lineage Supports
Swap the weapon base first; Primal Skills are inert without Talisman.
- From: Supports copied from other castersTo: Lineage Supports for Primal Skills only
Lineage Supports do not socket into non-Primal skills; keep generic supports for non-Primal links.
- From: Passive tree without Druid clustersTo: Add 0.4.0 Druid clusters (form duration, Primal effect)
Pre-0.4.0 planners lacked these nodes entirely.
- From: Crit stacking that ignored form stateTo: Account for 'recently Shapeshifted' condition (fixed in 0.4.0i)
After 0.4.0i the condition procs reliably post-form.
CURRENT APPLICABILITY
Current applicability (0.5.4e)
| Mechanic | Status | Current rule (0.5.4e) | Superseded by | Read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Talisman weapon requirement | Still current | Shapeshift still requires a Talisman; the 0.4.0i requirement-check fix is in effect. | — | Talisman item page |
| Primal Skill form-gating | Still current | Primal Skills remain form-gated in 0.5.4e. | — | Primal Skills page |
| Lineage Support restriction | Still current | Lineage Supports still only socket into Primal Skills. | — | Support Gem page |
| Shapeshift crit condition | Changed later | 0.4.0i fixed it; later balance may have adjusted crit numbers but the condition works. | 0.4.0i, 0.5.x balance | Bear Shaman Druid build |
COMMUNITY EVIDENCE

My crit condition never triggers after I un-bear.
This whole guide is for a class that isn't in the game yet.

Open source ↗QUESTIONS
FAQ
Why does my old Druid build say skills are invalid?
Because druid did not exist before 0.4.0 and the system requires a talisman weapon plus form gated primal skills rebuild on the current druid framework
Do Lineage Supports work on non-Primal skills?
No lineage supports only socket into primal skills by design use generic supports for other links
Did the Shapeshift crit fix stay in the game?
Yes the 0.4.0i recently shapeshifted crit condition fix is still in effect in 0.5.4e only later balance numbers may differ
