Walking Calamity Skill Guide — Glory, Meteors, Bear Form and Buff Pause

Walking Calamity is a 'cast a buff, move to drop meteors' skill: the tooltip shows 0% base attack damage, the real damage comes from periodically summoned Meteors. This guide explains why the tooltip shows 0%, how Glory is generated and consumed, small / large meteor differences, how enemy count changes frequency, why entering / leaving bear form seems to interrupt the buff, and how Shaman Bear and Fire Bear use the same skill.

Overview: What Walking Calamity Does

Walking Calamity is a 'release a buff, move to summon meteors' skill. After you cast it you gain a Buff lasting several seconds; during the Buff (especially while you move) meteors periodically fall around the character, dealing AoE damage to enemies in range. The most counter-intuitive part is its tooltip showing '0% base attack damage' — because that one cast deals no damage; the real damage is its meteors.

This also explains why players misjudge it as 'no damage' or 'auto-like': meteors are an independent damage source, driven by the Glory resource. You need Glory first to use it effectively, and Glory comes from accumulation after Rage hits its cap.

It is a signature area finisher / burst skill in bear builds, used by both Shaman Bear (Druid bear) and Smith of Kitava Fire Bear routes, but differently. Understanding 'Buff cycle + Glory drive + move to drop meteors' is the key to using it correctly.

  • Essence: release Buff + move to summon Meteors (AoE skill).
  • Tooltip 0% base attack damage is normal — damage from independent meteors.
  • Glory-driven: Rage fills then accumulates Glory, which is consumed to cast.
  • Typical carriers: Shaman Bear and Smith of Kitava Fire Bear routes.

Core Mechanics: 0% Base Damage, Glory, Small / Large Meteors

Why the tooltip is 0%: Walking Calamity's 'cast action' itself produces no hit damage; it only applies the Buff and starts meteor summoning. Meteors have their own independent damage resolution, so when evaluating its strength, look at meteor frequency and per-hit damage, not that one cast's panel.

Rage → Glory generation chain: you must first fill Rage to its cap; only after that does continued Rage convert to Glory. So 'opening Walking Calamity before Rage is full' often leaves no resource available — solving Rage-full and Glory generation first is the prerequisite for this skill to work.

Small meteors vs large meteors: during the Buff, small meteors fall periodically (around the body, densifying with enemy count), plus occasional large meteors (boss-priority, with per-target / same-target limits on single-target). In dense packs small meteors are more frequent, so clear is strong; on a single boss it relies on large meteors, but limited by same-target caps, weaker single-target than pure single-target skills.

Enemy count and frequency: more enemies means higher small-meteor trigger / density, greater clear value; in open or single-boss situations frequency drops — structurally why it is 'strong clear, weak single-target'. The Buff itself also grants Rage Regen and 'Damage Gained as Fire' type buffs, further binding value to sustained movement and survival.

  • 0% base damage is normal; look at meteor frequency and per-hit damage.
  • Rage fills → then accumulates Glory; solve Rage / Glory generation first.
  • Small meteors densify with enemy count (strong clear); large meteors boss-priority, same-target limited (weak single-target).
  • Buff grants Rage Regen and Damage Gained as Fire.

Key Properties and Acquisition

Skill type
Active Skill (Buff + Meteor summon)
Tagged skill, fire, aoe, movement, buff, meteor, bear, glory.
Resource requirement
Glory (accumulated after Rage fills)
Casting / sustaining needs Glory; Glory generation comes from continued accumulation after Rage hits cap.
Acquisition
Uncut Skill Gem
Gem level affects meteor behaviour; specific unlock tier follows the current Uncut Gem ladder.
Buff duration
≈ 10 seconds (follow client)
During the Buff, moving summons meteors; exact duration follows the current client.
Quality
No-Glory-consume chance / more meteors
High quality usually grants 'chance to not consume Glory' or more meteors, a stable and universal investment.

Recommended Support Gems

Prolonged Duration (related)
Core
Extends Buff duration, letting meteors fall over a longer time, raising total damage and coverage.
Almost all Walking Calamity variants benefit.
Magnified Area
Core
Widens meteor landing area, improving clear coverage.
Lower value on boss single-target than on clear.
Fire-related (Fire / elemental add)
Situational
Meteors are fire damage; fire damage / fire penetration supports amplify them.
Fire Bear route relies more; specific supports follow the current client compatibility list.
Rage
Situational
Strengthens the Rage loop, indirectly improving Glory generation rhythm.
Needs a stable Rage source first.
Elemental Armament
Optional
Broad elemental bonus; effective if meteors are classed as elemental damage.
Confirm the current client's elemental classification for this skill.
Brutality
Optional
Drops elements for physical direct damage; if meteors are fire, don't take it — you lose the fire portion.
Only consider if meteors are confirmed physical.

Role and Differences Across Builds

Shaman Bear (Druid bear): Walking Calamity is an independent branch of the bear line, with entry condition 'Glory generation solved + gem level reached'. Here it is a large-area clear burst / finisher, pairing with Rampage's rage loop to first fill Rage→Glory, then open Walking Calamity to finish. Note it is only an area finisher, not a single-target boss tool.

Smith of Kitava Fire Bear: Walking Calamity is used as an area finisher; but in 0.5 it is no longer a fire trigger source (no longer feeding Fire Spell on Hit / Cast on Elemental Ailment) — the fire trigger is now driven by walking through Molten Crash rifts. So in this route it is only 'moving area finisher'; don't expect it to carry the fire chain trigger.

Witchhunter and other usages: the community also has Walking Calamity plugged into crossbow / ranger systems (see video) — same mechanic: release Buff, move to drop meteors — but the resource prerequisite (Glory / Rage) differs from the bear line. Whatever the route, the core is 'solve Glory generation first, then treat it as an area finisher'.

  • Shaman Bear: Glory-branch area finisher; solve Glory generation first.
  • Fire Bear: area finisher; in 0.5 no longer a fire trigger source.
  • Other routes share the mechanic but different resource prerequisites.
  • It is always an area finisher, not a single-target boss主力.

Common Mistakes: Why It Seems 'Broken' or 'No Damage'

Assuming tooltip 0% means no damage: damage comes from independent meteors, not that one cast's panel. Correct evaluation is meteor frequency and per-hit damage.

Opening before Glory generated: with Rage not full and no sustained Glory source, Walking Calamity does almost nothing. First fill Rage, stabilise Glory generation, then open.

Entering / leaving bear form seems to interrupt the Buff: the Buff is paused or reset on transformation or Buff pause / resume, causing 'buff on but no meteors'. This is normal Buff-state behaviour, not a bug; keep the Buff online then move.

Weapon swap or Buff interrupted: swapping weapon sets or interrupting the Buff stops meteor summoning, looking like 'skill broken'. Confirm not to swap sets or break the Buff during its duration.

Expecting it to solo the boss: large meteors are same-target limited, single-target ceiling is finite. It is an area finisher / clear burst; hand single-target boss to a real single-target skill.

  • Problem: tooltip 0% no damage. Direct answer: damage from independent meteors.
  • Problem: opened but no response. Direct answer: Rage full→Glory not generated, solve resource first.
  • Problem: Buff on but no meteors. Direct answer: transform / set swap / Buff interrupt pauses it; keep Buff online.
  • Problem: can't damage boss. Direct answer: it's an area finisher; single-target relies on other skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the tooltip show 0% base attack damage?

Because the skill's cast action produces no hit damage; it only applies the Buff and summons meteors.

The real damage comes from periodically falling meteors, with independent damage resolution.

How much Glory do I need, and how do I get it?

You need Glory first to use it effectively; Glory comes from accumulation after Rage hits its cap.

Specific amount and generation speed follow the current client; first stabilise the Rage→Glory loop.

Why does the skill seem broken after leaving bear form?

The Buff is paused / reset on transformation, weapon swap or Buff interrupt, and meteor summoning stops with it.

This is normal Buff-state behaviour; keep the Buff online then move.

How do Shaman Bear and Fire Bear differ in usage?

Shaman Bear: Walking Calamity is a Glory-required branch area finisher.

Fire Bear: used as area finisher, but in 0.5 no longer a fire trigger source — the fire chain trigger is now driven by Molten Crash rifts.
