QUICK ANSWER

Remember These First

The Crowbell is an Act 1 Hunting Grounds optional boss fought as a three-arena CHASE — one boss, one health bar, not three separate bosses.

He flees after the first pillar-top fight — that is INTENDED, not a bug. Follow the route; do not wait at the old arena.

Follow the dead-animal corpses — they are the path hints (added as environmental cues in 0.5.0).

The Book of Specialisation drops on the ground after the final kill; pick it up AND right-click it for +2 Weapon Set Passive Points.

Reward

+2 Weapon Set Passive Points (one-time)

First step

Follow dead animals to the arena

If he flees

If no points

FAQ

Top search questions: chase, Bell, points

How do I find The Crowbell in the Hunting Grounds?

Progress the Trail of Corruption quest into the Hunting Grounds. Follow the slaughtered-cattle corpses (0.5.0 environmental cue) to the gate, then the linear path to the dead-end 'Hunt Stone' arena.

Why did the boss run away?

After the first pillar-top fight he flees to the next arena — this is intended. Follow the route; the fight does NOT require reopening the map.

What changes after I pick up the Bell?

He grabs the Bell and breaks a wooden gate, then uses Bell Slam and a Spinning Bell Swing in the final arena. Stay back from the cracks and corners.

Why didn't I get Passive Points?

The Book of Specialisation drops on the ground and must be picked up AND right-clicked. The +2 are Weapon Set Passive Points (Weapon Set node), not your normal pool.

OVERVIEW

Encounter Overview

The Crowbell is a single boss fought across three connected arenas as a continuous chase. There is one health bar — the flee is a scripted phase of the same encounter, not three bosses and not a bug.

The threat comes from tight arenas and a few one-shot melee hits, not mechanical complexity. Patience and dodging beat trying to brute-force him.

  • One boss, one HP bar, three-arena chase.
  • The flee is intended — follow the route.
  • The Book of Specialisation is the reward.
5

ARENA READING

Encounter Loop — Three Arenas

Arena 1 (Hunt Stone / pillar top): the open start. After ~10-25% HP lost he flees. Arena 2 (between two gates): the tightest, hardest space. After a ground-punch sequence he grabs the Bell, breaks a gate, and flees to Arena 3 (thorn-vine enclosure) for the final fight.

The whole chase happens in the same map instance — it does NOT require reopening the map or re-entering the zone.

  • Pillar top -> he flees (intended).
  • Alcove between gates -> tightest space.
  • Bell -> breaks gate -> final vine arena.
  • Same instance; no map reset needed.

BUILD-SPECIFIC STRATEGY

Build Considerations

The Crowbell is a positioning fight in cramped spaces. The Spinning Bell Swing and Bell Slam punish melee that over-commits; ranged must respect the back-to-back swings near 25% HP.

Because it is one continuous chase, keep your flask and mobility ready between arenas. Do not blow cooldowns during the flee — save them for the final vine arena.

  • Melee: back off during Bell attacks.
  • Ranged: respect back-to-back swings at 25%.
  • Keep mobility for the chase.
  • Save burst for the final arena.

Crowbell becomes invulnerable / can't finish

Bug reports of the boss going invulnerable at low HP before grabbing the Bell, blocking the kill and reward.
Editorial analysis

If the transition fails he cannot be finished. This is a bug, distinct from the intended flee. Restart the instance if stuck.

Our answer

The flee is intended; if he is truly invulnerable, reset the instance.

Common Problems and Fixes

The boss ran away and I lost him

  1. Did you follow the chase?
  2. Is he actually invulnerable?
I cannot find the arena

Direct answer: Follow the slaughtered-cattle corpses (the 0.5.0 environmental cue) from the Hunting Grounds gate to the dead-end 'Hunt Stone' arena.

  1. On the Trail of Corruption path?
  2. Following dead animals?
I got no Passive Points

Direct answer: The Book drops on the ground and must be picked up AND right-clicked. The +2 are Weapon Set Passive Points in the Weapon Set node, not your normal pool.

  1. Book picked up?
  2. Right-clicked?
  3. Weapon Set node checked?
