Build Overview

Sniper Minion Infernalist is the Witch ranged-summon toolkit: Elemental Sentry acts as a placeable sniper giving steady single-target, Raging Spirits handle melee, and the Infernalist demon form opens a burst window when you transform.

The core fun is 'place sentries then kite': most damage is automatic from sentries and spirits; your input is positioning, topping up spirits and triggering the demon form. It does not burn Mana like a pure-caster, but it leans hard on minion survival and minion cap.

This guide is stage-based: first when to move from pure spirits to sentry-led, then gear, passives, demon-form timing and budget tiers. All client numbers and mechanics are flagged for PC verification; unverified DPS is not stated as fact.

  • Mapping is spirits on melee + sentry ranged follow-up, near semi-auto.
  • Bossing closes with sentry sniping plus the demon-form burst.
  • Minion survival and cap are real bottlenecks that need handling.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Sentries auto-snipe; mapping is near semi-auto and relaxed.
  • Demon form gives a clear burst window and clean boss finish.
  • No Mana cost; sustain pressure is far lower than a pure caster.
  • Works on a low budget early and transitions smoothly.

Cons

  • Sentry cap and uptime are hard constraints; early output can stall.
  • Melee enemies bypass sentry range; spirits must cover gaps.
  • Bosses that move a lot lower sentry hit rate.
  • Map mods affecting minions (e.g. less minion damage) are a hidden trap.

How the Loop Reads: Sentry Place → Spirit Cleanup → Demon Burst

Mapping loop: place Elemental Sentry on the pack's flank; spirits auto-lunge at the nearest enemy while you kite and top up spirits. This is why the community calls it semi-auto mapping.

Boss loop: pre-place one or two sentries along the boss path, use spirits to tank/aggro, then transform into the demon form once its resource is full for the burst window while sentries keep sniping the core.

Phrases like 'sentries aim themselves' usually refer to sentry auto-targeting, not a separate system; verify against the skill description and client, do not treat it as a hidden extra mechanic.

  • Mapping = place sentry + kite; spirits handle the rest.
  • Boss = pre-place sentry → spirits aggro → demon burst.
  • Spirits are the melee finisher, not the main damage.

Leveling Path

  1. Levels 1–14 · 1–14

Start with Raging Spirit; it is available very early and is your real mapping minion. Do not force sentry count yet — cap and gear are not ready.

  2. Levels 15–29 · 15–29

Add Elemental Sentry as ranged follow-up and start taking life/spirit-damage/resist nodes. Keep spirits as core.

  3. Levels 30–42 — Infernalist Unlocks · 30–42

Pick Infernalist and take demon-form nodes. The transform window now gives boss burst.

  4. Levels 43–60 — Early Maps · 43–60

Run sentry + spirits on a non-crit, low budget. Cap resistances, fix life, keep sentries up on rares.

  5. Level 60+ — Endgame Prep · 60+

Move into budget upgrades: sentry cap, minion damage, spirit level and Chaos Res. Only chase high-end gear after the upgrade-priority checklist passes.

Skill Setup

Core Skills

Elemental Sentry
Placeable ranged sniper giving steady single-target; main boss damage.

Supports: minion-damage · minion-speed · added-chaos

Why: It is the anchored core of the whole loop; without sentries bossing falls back to unstable pure-spirit pacing.

When to replace: Never replaced; in maps you can temporarily place fewer to speed up.

Mapping vs Bossing: Mapping: one on the flank is enough. Boss: one or two on the path to lock the core.

Exact support links and sentry cap pending PC verification.

Raging Spirit
Melee spirit handling enemies that bypass sentry range and aggroing bosses.

Supports: minion-damage · meat-shield · feeding-frenzy

Why: It covers the sentry range blind spot; steady for mapping and boss aggro.

When to replace: Keep permanent; swap only if a stronger melee summon appears.

Mapping vs Bossing: Mapping: auto-lunges at mobs. Boss: melee aggro and cleanup.

Buffs & Triggers

Pain Offering
Sacrifices minions for team-wide damage; spikes sentry/spirit output briefly.

Why: It is the burst-window damage core; best used with demon form and boss phases.

When to replace: Keep; part of the damage architecture.

Mapping vs Bossing: Used in both, but bossing depends more on its spike.

Consumes minions; time it carefully.

Flame Wall
Ground fire wall; projectiles passing through gain fire added, buffing sentries/spirits.

Why: Adds fire and area damage, strengthening resolution.

When to replace: Keep as a buff.

Mapping vs Bossing: Mapping optional; bossing placed to empower the window.

Cast on Minion Death
Casts a spell when a minion dies, adding coverage and self-defense.

Why: Auto-adds a layer of damage/control when spirits fall, easing downtime.

When to replace: Keep; part of the defense architecture.

Mapping vs Bossing: Used in both, more critical in bossing.

Ascendancy Order

  1. Infernalist — First Nodes

Pick Infernalist. Prioritize demon-form nodes so the transform window reliably provides burst; this is the precondition for the build.

  2. Minion Survival Check

If T15+ minions die often, do not trade demon/damage nodes for pure damage; secure sentry cap and spirit survival first.

Passive Tree

  1. Campaign

Only take nodes supporting spirits/minion damage and life; do not pre-path to sentry-cap wheels.

  2. Early Maps

Switch into the sentry variant; prioritize life, Chaos Res, minion damage and sentry cap.

  3. Endgame

After defense and sentry cap are solved, invest in minion crit/damage wheels; compare gear states at the same tier.

Gear

Staff / Focus

Required

  1. Minion skill level / Minion damage — Directly scales sentry and spirit resolution.

Recommended

  1. Life and resistances — You must survive to command.

Optional

  1. Cast Speed — Faster spirit refresh and sentry placement.

Luxury

  1. Minion crit chance / Crit damage — Only after survival and cap are stable.
  • Pick a base that boosts minion level and spell/minion damage; enough sockets for spirit and sentry links.

Focus is the main hand; prioritize minion affixes.

Body / Boots / Helmet

Required

  1. Life and two capped resistances — Minions die; you must not too.

Recommended

  1. Chaos Res — Hard late-game need, not native.

Optional

  1. Movement speed — Improves positioning and pack-kiting.

Luxury

  1. Explicit minion affixes — Only matters after defense.
  • Life, Chaos Res and resistances; boot movement speed for kiting.

Chaos Res must be stacked specifically.

Rings / Amulet / Belt

Required

  1. Attributes to equip staff and gems — Un-equippable is useless.

Recommended

  1. Resistances and life — Completes the defense shell.

Optional

  1. Sentry cap / minion survival — Free boosts from jewelry.

Luxury

  1. Minion skill level — Late-game damage.
  • Attributes, resistances, life; sentry cap or minion survival where needed.

Stat Priority

  1. Minion skill levelScales sentries and spirits; top progress check.
  2. Sentry capDecides whether multi-sentry coverage is sustainable.
  3. Chaos ResHard late-game need, not native.
  4. Life and resistancesYou must survive to command minions.
  5. Minion critOnly after survival and cap are stable.

Upgrade Priority

  1. Clear slows

Symptom: Packs need many spirit rounds to die.

    Check first:

    • Is the staff still a tier-appropriate base?
    • Are resistances and life solved (i.e. staff is the real bottleneck)?

Upgrade next: Swap the under-tier staff before touching jewelry.

  2. Sentries keep dying

Symptom: Sentries get deleted in boss fights.

    Check first:

    • Only stacking damage, ignoring sentry survival?
    • Are you kiting to protect sentries in bossing?

Upgrade next: Fix sentry survival and cap before scaling damage.

  3. Demon form never comes

    Symptom: Transform resource never fills.

    Check first:

    • Forcing bosses before taking demon nodes?
    • Is kill pace too slow for resource gain?

Upgrade next: Fix ascendancy and kill pace, not the staff.

  4. Stalled after T15

    Symptom: Damage stops improving.

    Check first:

    • Minion level capped?
    • Focus minion damage in place?
    • Chaos Res maxed?

Upgrade next: Upgrade in order: minion level → Focus → Chaos Res.

  5. Consider high-end

Symptom: Want higher boss damage and eyeing luxury gear.

    Check first:

    • Are sentries and survival stable?
    • Will high-end break resist caps or drop life?

Upgrade next: Buy piece by piece and re-test after the checklist passes; do not trade survival for numbers.

Mapping

Place Elemental Sentry on the pack's flank; spirits auto-lunge at the nearest enemy while you kite and top up. Trash does not need full sentries; one is enough.

Once clear slows, upgrade the staff first. Keep some survival (resist/life/kite) active so mapping never stalls.

  • Place sentry + kite is the whole mapping rhythm.
  • One sentry is enough for trash.
  • Reactively upgrade the staff when clear slows.

Bossing

Bossing is a sequence: pre-place one or two sentries along the boss path, use spirits to aggro from melee, then transform once the demon resource is full for the burst window while sentries keep sniping the core.

If sentries keep dying, the problem is survival and placement (kite to protect them), not the staff. When the boss moves a lot, place sentries on the narrow path it must cross, not at its feet.

  • Pre-place sentry → spirit aggro → demon burst.
  • Spirits melee cleanup.
  • Sentry death = fix survival and placement, not swap weapon.

Budget Tiers: Real Cheap vs Luxury Differences

Cheap: a low-budget staff plus solved resistances/life/sentry cap, clearing and bossing most content on sentries + spirits. It changes whether you can play, not the damage number.

Luxury: high minion-level Focus, specific Uniques, capped Chaos Res and minion crit, raising both sentry resolution and survival. It changes ceiling and error margin, not turning cheap into a different build.

Mirror tier only after you have verified cheap/luxury pass and client numbers confirm; do not sacrifice Chaos Res and life for DPS.

  • Cheap first: life, resistances, sentry cap, a decent staff.
  • Luxury later: minion level, Chaos Res, crit.
  • Mirror tier never breaks the defense floor.

Community Evidence

This guide uses community discussion as a reproducible checklist, not a promise of their shown DPS.

Troubleshooting

Boss sentries not triggering / dying

  • Are sentries on the path narrows?
  • Only stacking damage, ignoring sentry survival?
  • Is kiting protecting them?

Demon resource never fills

  • Demon nodes taken?
  • Is kill pace too slow?

Mapping slows

  • Is the staff still a tier base?
  • Are resistances and life solved first?

FAQ

What level do I start using Raging Spirit?

Usable very early; it is the real mapping minion. The sentry toolkit waits for gear and cap.

  • Raging Spirit mapping from level 1.

I swapped a better staff but sentries are still weak?

Sentries depend on cap and survival, not the staff alone; fix cap and survival first.

  • Record a boss fight and check sentry uptime.
