QUICK ANSWER
Remember These First
She vanishes into a spreading poison gas; you must locate and approach her to force her out.
Coin runes she tosses spawn a Spirit of Balbala unless you roll through the coin to cancel it.
The Barya only drops if you have not yet completed the first Trial — it is not repeatable.
Physical, Chaos and Fire, plus Poison
Find her inside the poison cloud, then cancel coins
Balbala's Barya -> Trial of the Sekhemas -> Ascendancy Points
You already earned it, or the Trial quest is done
FAQ
Top search questions: gas, coins, Barya
Where is Balbala in Traitor's Passage?
Past the Six Sisters staircase, follow the paper seals to the Ancient Seal door, open it, then remove the 3 Runic Seals in the Prison of the Disgraced to release her. The fight starts immediately.
Why can't I see her during the fight?
She turns invisible and spreads poison gas from the arena center (cue: 'Visions of Jarah!'). Contagion or any damaging ailment VFX reveals her position; walk into her to force the reveal slam.
Do I have to step on the coin runes?
No. Rolling through a tossed coin cancels it. If you ignore it, after about 10 seconds it spawns a Spirit of Balbala that adds pressure — cancel coins unless you want the add.
Why did Balbala's Barya not drop?
The quest Barya drops only once, before your first Trial of the Sekhemas. If you already earned those Ascendancy Points, re-killing her yields nothing. A pre-0.2.1 bug causing no-drop was fixed in 0.2.1.

OVERVIEW
Encounter Overview
Balbala, the Traitor is a fast, teleporting djinn imprisoned in the Prison of the Disgraced. She is not a stat-check wall — she is a mechanics fight built around finding her while invisible, cancelling her coin summons, and dodging her blade patterns.
The kill itself is straightforward; the reward is the point. Defeating her drops Balbala's Barya, the quest version of a Djinn Barya that opens the Trial of the Sekhemas and grants your first 2 Ascendancy Points.
- Locate her inside the poison gas instead of standing still.
- Cancel coin runes by rolling through them unless you want the Spirit add.
- The Barya is a one-time quest drop, not a repeatable reward.
ARENA READING
Poison Gas and the Hidden Boss
During the fight Balbala vanishes and spreads a Chaos/Poison gas from the arena center (cue: 'Mists of Sulamit!'). Standing in the gas is a steady damage-over-time that can kill you if you wait it out.
She is not gone — she is invisible in the cloud. Any damaging ailment or Contagion reveals her outline. Move into her to force the reveal slam ('Sands of Wrath!'), then punish the recovery.
- Gas spreads from the center outward.
- Contagion / ailment VFX reveals her position.
- Approach her to force the reveal, then dodge the slam.
PHASE BREAKDOWN
Phases & Fight Flow
Phase 1 · Phase 1 — Continuous Fight
Trigger: Fight start after releasing her.
Objectives- Find her in gas
- Cancel coins
- Dodge blades
No formal phase split; pressure comes from the poison-gas vanish and coin-run adds.

OVERVIEW
Reward Claim Flow — Balbala's Barya to Ascendancy
Killing Balbala drops Balbala's Barya (a quest-version Djinn Barya). This is the unlock, not the points themselves — you must run the Trial.
Take the Barya to the Trial of the Sekhemas: open the Desert Map from the Ardura Caravan, place the Barya in the Relic Altar (add Relics if you have them), clear the Trial rooms and Rattlecage the Earthbreaker, then use the Altar of Ascendancy to claim 2 Ascendancy Points.
- Defeat Balbala -> Barya drops on the ground.
- Open Desert Map -> Trial of the Sekhemas.
- Place Barya in the Relic Altar.
- Clear the Trial (rooms + Rattlecage).
- Altar of Ascendancy -> 2 Ascendancy Points.
- Barya is one-time; later Ascendancies need random Djinn Barya drops.

BEFORE THE FIGHT
Pre-Fight Preparation Checklist
| Done | Check | Why it matters | Quick fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cold damage / resistance Bring Cold damage if possible; she resists Fire. | She is weak to Cold and resists Fire. | Cold rolls or a Cold skill. | |
| Poison clearing Have a way to clear or avoid Poison. | Poison Daggers stack over a long fight. | Flask with bleed/poison cleanse or movement. | |
| Movement skill A dash or roll available. | Finding her in gas and cancelling coins needs mobility. | Any movement skill or flask of speed. | |
| Barya pickup space Inventory not full. | The quest Barya drops on the ground. | Free a slot before the kill. |
BUILD-SPECIFIC STRATEGY
Build Considerations
Balbala rewards mobility and burst, not tanking. Melee must chase her through the gas; ranged can kite but still needs to reveal and pressure her.
Cold damage is the cleanest lever because she resists Fire. A Contagion or any damaging DoT also doubles as a tracking tool when she vanishes.
- Melee: chase into the gas, punish the reveal slam.
- Ranged: kite, but keep pressure so she cannot free-cast.
- Any ailment reveals her while invisible.
- Cold > Fire given her resistances.

PROBLEMS & DIRECT ANSWERS
Common Problems and Fixes
I cannot see Balbala during the fight
