Mirage Archer Guide — Dodge Trigger, Socketed Attacks, Cooldown and Limits

Mirage Archer is a Meta gem that, when you Dodge Roll, spawns a Mirage that uses the attacks socketed into it. The Mirage mimics your ranged attacks (Bow / Spear / Crossbow) with a damage penalty, has its own object limit separate from yours, and cannot use supports that say 'Skills you use yourself'. This guide explains the dodge trigger, cooldown, multiple Mirages, socketed-attack priority, the Lightning Rod / Lightning Arrow interaction, and the mapping / bossing rotations used by Deadeye, Witchhunter and Gemling builds.

Quick Answer: Dodge Roll Spawns a Mirage

Mirage Archer does not fire anything itself. When you Dodge Roll, it spawns a Mirage that uses the attacks you have socketed into the gem, at a damage penalty.

The Mirage effectively doubles your ranged output for its duration — as long as the socketed skills are valid ranged attacks and the cooldown is ready.

Requirements and Setup

Mirage Archer needs a Bow, Spear or Crossbow equipped and at least one valid ranged attack socketed into the gem. The Mirage can only use skills that are themselves ranged attacks — melee and unsupported skills are ignored.

Because it is a Meta gem, you socket it alongside the attacks you want mimicked; the gem itself is the trigger, not the damage source.

Mirage Creation and Limits

The Mirage is created on Dodge Roll and lasts a short duration before expiring. On the current client the cooldown begins when the Mirage is created, so you cannot spawn a new one until the previous is consumed or its duration ends — confirm the exact cooldown on client 0.5.4.

Multiple Mirages cannot normally coexist; one dodge produces one Mirage, and the next dodge is gated by the cooldown. The Mirage's object count is tracked separately from your own deployed objects.

Socketed Attacks and Priority

You can socket a single attack or several. With multiple socketed attacks, the Mirage uses them according to a priority / rotation rather than all at once. Skills with built-in Uses, Grenades or Ammunition behave specially — the Mirage may need to reload or may not fire if it lacks the initial Uses.

A common mismatch is Freezing Salvo: it can be socketed, but the Mirage may not fire if it does not have the initial Uses available, so it looks like 'nothing happened'.

Object Limits Independent of Player

The Mirage's deployed objects (such as Lightning Rods it places) are counted against the Mirage's own limit, separate from your player limit. That means you and the Mirage can each have your own set of rods up to the respective caps.

This independence is also where the known Lightning Rod + Lightning Arrow bug appears: the Mirage's rods and your rods can interact in unexpected ways, so test the combo on the current client before relying on it.

Mechanics: Uses, Reload and Cooldown

The Mirage inherits the socketed attack's mechanics, including Uses and Reload. An attack that reloads will make the Mirage reload too, which is why Explosive Shot's clip behaviour shows up on the Mirage as well.

The Mirage's lifespan is short, so skills that need a long wind-up or many Uses may not finish before it expires. Pick socketed attacks that pay off quickly.

Skill Interactions

Explosive Shot works through the Mirage but keeps its clip/reload behaviour. Lightning Arrow is a clean mimic with no reload. Lightning Rod is limited and has the known player-Arrow bug, so the Lightning Rod + Lightning Arrow pair needs testing on the Mirage.

Snipe is supported from 0.5 onward as a channeled attack; the Mirage channels it but timing on release matters.

Support Compatibility

Duration supports extend the Mirage's life, which is the main lever for getting more attacks out of it. Cooldown supports shorten the dodge-to-dodge gap. Avoid supports that explicitly say 'Skills you use yourself' — the Mirage is not you, so those do not apply to its attacks.

Spirit Budget Trade-offs

At 60 Spirit, Mirage Archer is expensive and competes with Herald buffs and Combat Frenzy for the same pool. On a ranged build you must decide whether the mimicked damage is worth more than an aura or charge generator.

Most Deadeye and Witchhunter ranged builds keep it because the doubled ranged output is large, but tight-Spirit builds may drop it.

Trade-off

Drop only if Spirit is the bottleneck.

Mapping Rotation

  1. PositionDodge Roll near a packMirage spawns and mimics your socketed attack.
  2. BurstBoth you and Mirage fireDoubled ranged clear on the pack.
  3. RecoverDodge again after cooldownRefresh the Mirage for the next pack.

Bossing Rotation

  1. Pre-placeDodge Roll before the damage windowMirage ready as the boss opens.
  2. SustainRe-dodge on cooldown during the fightKeep a Mirage up for sustained ranged output.

Where It Is Used

Deadeye and Witchhunter ranged builds use Mirage Archer to double their bow / crossbow output. Gemling Legionnaire variants use it when they can afford the 60 Spirit and want the mimicked damage.

In every case the build values the doubled ranged attack more than the lost Spirit aura.

  • Deadeye: doubled bow clear.
  • Witchhunter: doubled crossbow output.
  • Gemling Legionnaire: mimic when Spirit allows.

Troubleshooting

  1. Mirage never appearsCooldown not ready or no valid socketed attackDodge after cooldown with a ranged attack socketed.
  2. Mirage will not attackSocketed skill is melee / unsupportedSocket a valid Bow/Spear/Crossbow attack.
  3. Mirage will not reloadSkill needs initial Uses it lacksUse a no-reload attack or give it the Uses first.

Community Evidence

Community reports cluster on the Lightning Rod bug (Mirage rods interacting with the player's Arrow) and on skill selection (why Freezing Salvo 'does nothing'). Client testing confirms the Mirage uses a priority over socketed ranged attacks and that Uses / reload skills behave specially.

The 'yourself' support misconception is common: supports that say Skills you use yourself do not apply to the Mirage's attacks.
