QUICK ANSWER
Quick answer
The old 'combine splinters straight into a Breachstone' and 'use a Breachstone in the Realmgate to fight Xesht' flows are historical (0.3 / 0.4) and no longer work.
Xesht, We That Are One is now reached through splinter stacks, not through a Breachstone.
Revealing Breach Domains / Strongholds on the Atlas for tiered Breach endgame content (Hive, Sky Hive, Hive Fortress).
Confirm the Breachstone is in your main inventory and that you have explored enough Atlas fog to surface a valid reveal node.
Trying to right-click the Breachstone or dropping it into the old Realmgate - neither opens the content in 0.5.

ITEM FAMILY
The 0.5 Breach access chain
The current 0.5 Breach access chain is a four-step pipeline. The items and resource below are the members you will actually handle; the Genesis Tree is the hub where the Wombgift is birthed into a Breachstone.
Splinter
Breach Splinter
Drops from Breach encountersDrops from monsters inside Breach encounters (Hive, Sky Hive, Fortress). A full stack of 300 in your inventory auto-combines into a Revelatory Wombgift.
Wombgift
Revelatory Wombgift
300 Splinters becomes 1The special Wombgift formed from 300 Breach Splinters. Placed into the Breachstone Womb at the center of the Genesis Tree interface to birth a Breachstone, which costs Hiveblood.
Fragment
Breachstone
Atlas reveal keyThe end product. Carried in your main inventory and used on a valid Atlas node to reveal a Breach Domain / Stronghold cluster.
Resource
Hiveblood
Birthing fuelNon-tradeable fuel for every Genesis Tree birth, farmed from clearing Breach encounters. The amount needed scales with the Wombgift item level.
ACQUISITION
How to get Breach Splinters and Hiveblood
Breach Splinters and Hiveblood both come from the same place: Breach encounters on your Atlas maps. You do not buy a Breachstone directly.
Breach encounters (Hive / Sky Hive / Fortress)
Trigger Breach hands in maps and kill the Hiveborn. Each kill can drop Breach Splinters, and deeper or higher-tier maps drop more.
Defend Ailith / clear Strongholds
Breach Strongholds and Hives themselves pay out Hiveblood and Wombgifts as you stabilize and clear them, feeding the next birth.
Breach Atlas passives
Some Breach Atlas passive nodes boost splinter quantity or Wombgift outcomes, indirectly raising your Breachstone throughput.
Quest handout (first stone)
Your first Breachstone is granted by the Keepers of the Flame questline through Ailith to reveal the Monastery of the Keepers area. Repeatable Breachstones come from the Wombgift pipeline at the Genesis Tree.
USE FLOW
How to make and use a Breachstone
Collect 300 Breach Splinters
Farm Breach encounters. In your Stash, splinters stack infinitely; to combine them, move the stacks into your main inventory. A full stack of 300 auto-combines into a Revelatory Wombgift.
Travel to the Monastery of the Keepers
The Genesis Tree lives in this Atlas hub, south of your starting Atlas position, unlocked through the Keepers of the Flame questline.
Birth at the Genesis Tree
Open the Genesis Tree, place the Revelatory Wombgift into the central Breachstone Womb, and pay the required Hiveblood. The Breachstone is produced and goes to your inventory.
Carry the Breachstone in your inventory
Keep it in your main inventory. The Atlas reveal node only appears and is usable while the item is on your character, not in a Stash or Extra Inventory.
Use it on a valid Atlas node
As you explore the Atlas, certain nodes show a reveal option. Clicking consumes the Breachstone and reveals a cluster of 5-15 Breach Stronghold maps (the Breach Domain). Some nodes need 1 Breachstone; others need 2 or more.
Old flow (0.3 / 0.4): 300 splinters combined directly into a Breachstone, then right-clicked or used in the Realmgate to fight Xesht.
Current flow (0.5): 300 splinters become a Revelatory Wombgift, birthed at the Genesis Tree (Hiveblood) into a Breachstone, then used on a surfaced Atlas node to reveal a Breach Domain.
The Realmgate / Xesht path is historical; current Breachstones reveal Domains, not the pinnacle boss.
VALID TARGET MATRIX
Where a Breachstone works
A Breachstone is usable only on specific Atlas nodes that you surface by exploring fog. It must be in your main inventory, and the revealed Strongholds enforce a minimum Waystone Tier.
| Target | Main inventory | Surfaced Atlas node | Minimum Tier / count | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reveal a Breach Domain | Yes (required) | Yes (surfaced node) | Edge Strongholds need ~Tier 6; central may need Tier 14+ | Node must be surfaced by exploration |
| Right-click to activate | No | No | Open the node on the Atlas instead | Not how it opens in 0.5 |
| Old Realmgate slot | No | No | No Realmgate step in 0.5 | Retired - historical only |
| Multiple Breachstones | Stack in inventory | Some nodes need 2+ | Check the node before traveling | Node-dependent requirement |
PRE-USE CHECKLIST
Pre-use checklist
| Done | Check | Why it matters | Quick fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breachstone in main inventory Move it out of any Extra Inventory or Stash into your character main inventory. | The Atlas reveal only triggers while the item is on your character. | Withdraw it before traveling the Atlas. | |
| Valid node surfaced Explore Atlas fog around the target region until the reveal button appears on a node. | Nodes are not fixed; they appear as you reveal nearby maps. | Keep clearing adjacent maps to surface the node. | |
| Enough Breachstones Check whether the node needs 1 or 2+ Breachstones via its tooltip. | Some Domains require more than one stone. | Birth additional Breachstones at the Genesis Tree. | |
| Waystone Tier ready Confirm your maps meet the Stronghold minimum Waystone Tier (edge ~Tier 6, central ~Tier 14+). | Under-tier maps cannot enter the revealed Stronghold. | Use higher-tier Waystones for the run. |
OUTCOME ANALYSIS
Outcomes by situation
| Scenario | Benefit | Risk | Audience | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First Breachstone (quest) | Unlocks the Monastery of the Keepers area / first Domain | Low | All players | Low Use it where the quest points; it is consumed on reveal. |
| Repeatable Breachstone | Reveals a 5-15 map Breach Domain for Hiveblood + Wombgifts | Low | Breach farmers | Medium Best value when you can clear the deeper Strongholds. |
| Multiple Breachstones banked | Open larger / central Domains (2+ stones) | Medium (resource sink) | Endgame farmers | Medium Save them for central Strongholds that need Tier 14+. |
| Wrong item location | None | High (wasted trip) | Confused players | High Confirm main inventory plus a surfaced node before traveling. |
RISK ANALYSIS
Risk and failure cost
| Scenario | Gain | Loss | Risk | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Breachstone spent but you die inside the Domain | Access to Breach endgame loot (Hiveblood, Wombgifts, bosses) | The Breachstone is consumed; re-running needs another birth | Medium | Verify your build can clear the Stronghold minimum Tier before revealing. |
| Node needs 2+ but you only carry 1 | None (cannot open) | Wasted travel, no reveal | Low | Check the node requirement on its tooltip before traveling. |
| Expect Xesht from the stone | None | Confusion; wrong content targeted | Low | Xesht is reached via splinter stacks, not Breachstones - see the current-vs-legacy section. |
OVERVIEW
Current 0.5 flow vs the historical Realmgate
Current 0.5 chain: 300 Breach Splinters (auto-combine in inventory) -> Revelatory Wombgift -> birth at the Genesis Tree (spending Hiveblood) -> Breachstone -> use on a surfaced Atlas node to reveal a Breach Domain / Stronghold cluster.
HISTORICAL (0.3 / 0.4 - do not follow): 300 splinters combined directly into a Breachstone, which was then used in the Realmgate to fight Xesht, We That Are One. Since 0.3.0, pinnacle access moved to splinter stacks, Breachstones became drop-disabled, and in 0.5.0 they returned with the new Domain-reveal function.
Xesht, We That Are One is now a splinter-gated pinnacle boss. A Breachstone no longer opens that fight; it opens Breach Domains on the Atlas.
- Current: Genesis Tree birth, then Atlas reveal of a Domain.
- Historical: direct splinter -> Breachstone, then Realmgate -> Xesht.
- Any guide telling you to place a Breachstone in the Realmgate is out of date for 0.5.
COMMUNITY EVIDENCE
Community evidence
I have two Breachstones but the Atlas never shows a place to use them - where does it go?
A player had Breachstones but could not find any use location on the Atlas.
In 0.5 the reveal node is not fixed; it surfaces as you explore Atlas fog, and the Breachstone must be in your main inventory. If it sits in a Stash or Extra Inventory, no node appears.
Keep the Breachstone in your main inventory and keep clearing adjacent Atlas maps until the reveal button appears on a valid node.
My 300 Splinters became a Wombgift - what is the next step?
A player reached the Wombgift stage and did not know where to process it.
The Revelatory Wombgift must be birthed at the Genesis Tree in the Monastery of the Keepers; it is not used directly and there is no Realmgate step.
Travel to the Monastery of the Keepers, open the Genesis Tree, place the Wombgift in the central Breachstone Womb, pay Hiveblood, and collect the Breachstone.
A guide says put the Breachstone in the Realmgate, but my game has no slot - why?
A player followed an old guide that referenced the Realmgate.
The Realmgate flow is historical (0.3 / 0.4). In 0.5 the Breachstone is used on a surfaced Atlas node, not in any Realmgate.
Ignore Realmgate instructions for Breachstones; use the stone directly on the Atlas reveal node.

Problems and direct answers
No Atlas use location appears
Direct answer: The reveal node is not fixed; it surfaces as you explore fog, and the Breachstone must be in your main inventory.
- Move the stone to main inventory, clear adjacent maps to surface the node, and confirm you are not looking at the old Realmgate.
300 Splinters did not become a Breachstone
Direct answer: They become a Revelatory Wombgift first, not a Breachstone. Combine the stacks in your inventory, then birth at the Genesis Tree.
- Ensure splinters are in main inventory and fully stacked to 300, then go to the Genesis Tree.
Right-click does nothing
Direct answer: Breachstones are not right-click activations in 0.5; they are used on a surfaced Atlas node.
- Open the Atlas, find the revealed node, and click the reveal option there.
Used the stone but Xesht did not start
Direct answer: Xesht is reached via splinter stacks, not Breachstones. The stone reveals a Breach Domain.
- Read the current-vs-legacy section and pursue Xesht through the splinter pinnacle route.
PATCH HISTORY
Patch history
Breachstones are no longer drop-disabled and have a new function. Breach Splinters turn into a Revelatory Wombgift when fully stacked; birth it at the Genesis Tree to create a Breachstone. New Breach Domains spawn on the Atlas; using a Breachstone reveals the maps inside the domain.
Pinnacle access moved to splinter stacks; Breachstones became drop-disabled. This is why old Realmgate guides no longer apply.
Breachstones introduced to the game.
