Opportunity cost: Ingenuity consumes your belt slot, so compare the amplified ring value against a well-rolled Rare belt (e.g. a life/resist belt). A single high-value ring mod amplified by 30% often beats a generic rare belt, but only if your rings carry strong explicit modifiers.

Overview and current versus legacy
Ingenuity turns your ring slot into a multiplier. Its two headline lines each grant (20-30)% increased effect of Explicit Modifiers on one ring - the Left Ring and the Right Ring - and the two rolls are independent, so a perfect copy can hit 30% on both simultaneously. The belt also delivers 20% increased Flask Charges gained, the Utility Belt's (1-3) Charm Slots implicit, and small (-20 to 20)% Charm Charges gained / (-10 to 10)% Charm Charges used lines.
Because it multiplies explicit ring mods, Ingenuity rewards builds that invest in high-value ring modifiers (large life, resistances, attributes, or damage). A ring with a weak explicit line gains little; a ring stacked with strong explicits gains a lot.
Current versus legacy: in the current 0.5.4 range each ring is amplified by its own (20-30)% roll. Older copies rolled a single (40-80)% that applied to both rings at once - simpler but capped lower per ring and not independent. A 0.2.0f-era change also added a +(1-2) explicit Charm Slots line to some copies; the base (1-3) Charm Slots from the Utility Belt remains on all versions. Identify which generation you have before valuing it.

BUILD USAGE
Build usage
Ingenuity shines wherever rings carry explicit modifiers worth multiplying. The four personas below show the main ways to use it.
Worked example recap: a Left Ring with +60 Maximum Life at a 25% Ingenuity roll becomes +75 Life (60 x 1.25); a Right Ring with +40% Elemental Damage at 28% becomes 51.2% (40 x 1.28). Both rings can be amplified at once on a perfect copy.
Ring-stacking endgame
Pushes two explicit-heavy rings (life, resist, attribute or damage) through Ingenuity for a large net stat gain.
Charm-focused defence
Leverages the base Charm Slots and charge mods for a layered defensive tech without giving up ring value.
Flask sustain
The 20% increased Flask Charges gained line supports a flask-heavy sustain plan.

Alternatives
A Rare Utility Belt (or another belt base) can deliver flat life, resistances, attributes and utility suffixes that Ingenuity does not provide, at the cost of the ring multiplier. If your rings are implicit-heavy or weak on explicits, a Rare belt is often the better value.
Other Unique belts trade the ring amplifier for specialised payoffs (e.g. flask duration, armour, or charge generation). They suit narrower builds and should be considered only when ring amplification is not your priority.
Catalysts can quality the belt's own value where relevant, but they do not change the ring amplification range. Liquid Emotions and Charm tuning (see the Charms guide) are complementary systems rather than direct replacements.

ACQUISITION
How to get Ingenuity
Ingenuity drops from the King in the Mists pinnacle boss. It is a targeted Unique reward from that encounter and cannot be created with a Chance Orb, so farming the boss (or buying the roll on trade) is the only realistic path.

Re-running the boss with higher difficulty or yield modifiers improves your chances of a high double roll.
Trade (Currency Exchange / trade site)
Because it is boss-locked and not Chance Orb compatible, trade is often the fastest way to get a specific double roll.

Do not waste Chance Orbs on Utility Belts expecting Ingenuity - it is not in the Chance Orb unique pool.

My ring's implicit did not increase
Direct answer: Ingenuity amplifies only explicit ring modifiers; ring implicits and the belt's own mods are excluded by design.
- Check that the modifier is an explicit line, then use the calculator to confirm the gain.
Both rings show the same amplification
Direct answer: You likely have a legacy single (40-80)% copy, which applies one value to both rings. Current copies roll Left and Right independently.
- Inspect the two separate roll lines to tell legacy from current.
Chance Orb on a Utility Belt did nothing
Direct answer: Ingenuity is not in the Chance Orb unique pool; it drops from the King in the Mists only.
- Farm the boss or buy on trade instead of using Chance Orbs.
Belt feels weak on my build
Direct answer: If your rings are implicit-heavy or have weak explicits, a Rare belt is usually better. Ingenuity rewards strong explicit rings.
