Simulacrum: Splinters, the Item, and the 7-Wave Delirium Encounter in 0.5

In Path of Exile 2 0.5, 300 Simulacrum Splinters auto-combine into an itemised Simulacrum (a currency item, not a Waystone). You then apply it to an Atlas map node at 100% or higher Deliriousness, inside your Delirium fog, turning that node into a Simulacrum of Delusion - a 7-wave encounter. This guide covers the current 0.5 flow, eligibility, between-wave shards, rewards, and the retired 15-wave / Realmgate version.

QUICK ANSWER

Quick answer

In 0.5, a full stack of 300 Simulacrum Splinters auto-combines into an itemised Simulacrum - a currency item, not a Waystone. To run it, right-click the Simulacrum and left-click an Atlas map node that is at 100% or higher Deliriousness and inside your Delirium fog. That node becomes a Simulacrum of Delusion, a 7-wave encounter. Do NOT put it in the Map Device.

The old 15-wave Simulacrum and the Realmgate flow are historical (pre-0.5) and no longer apply.

Reaching 100% Deliriousness is done by spreading Delirium fog (e.g. via a Grand Mirror) and clearing those foggy maps; the node then becomes a legal Simulacrum target.

Use for

Running the 7-wave Simulacrum of Delusion for Liquid Emotions, Simulacrum-exclusive uniques, and a key toward the Delirium pinnacle.

Check first

Confirm the target Atlas node is inside your fog and shows 100%+ Deliriousness before applying.

Avoid

Trying to socket the Simulacrum into the Map Device like a Waystone, or applying it below 100% Deliriousness.

ITEM FAMILY

The 0.5 Simulacrum chain

The current Simulacrum is a small chain of splinters, an item, and an encounter. The members below are what you handle; Delirium fog and the Grand Mirror are the ramp that gets a node to 100% Deliriousness.

ACQUISITION

How to get Simulacrum Splinters and the item

Simulacrum Splinters come from Delirium content, and the itemised Simulacrum is what 300 of them become. You do not buy the item directly.

  1. Delirium encounters on maps

Run maps with a Delirium Mirror or instilled Delirium. Many current guides note splinters only drop once you have allocated the Delirium Atlas passive 'Is This About Me or You?'; confirm against your in-game Atlas tree.

  2. Ramp fog to 100% Deliriousness

Clearing foggy maps (spread via a Grand Mirror) raises each node Deliriousness %. At 100%, a fog node becomes a legal Simulacrum target, and 300 splinters auto-combine into the item.

  3. Combine 300 splinters

A full 300-splinter stack in your inventory auto-combines into one itemised Simulacrum. Splinters also trade on the Currency Exchange if your build cannot clear the waves.

  4. Quest version

The Delirium questline first grants access through Elder Madox and a quest Simulacrum of Delusion; the repeatable itemised Simulacrum is the farmable version.

5

USE FLOW

How to apply and run a Simulacrum

  1. Bank 300 Simulacrum Splinters

Farm Delirium until a full stack auto-combines into an itemised Simulacrum in your inventory.

  2. Reach 100%+ Deliriousness on a node

Spread Delirium fog across the Atlas (e.g. via a Grand Mirror) and clear those maps. Hover a fog node to confirm its Deliriousness % - it must read 100% or higher.

  3. Apply the Simulacrum to the node

Right-click the Simulacrum item, then left-click the 100%+ Delirious node inside your fog (on controller, open inventory over the node and apply it). It transforms into a Simulacrum of Delusion.

  4. Clear 7 waves

Enter the arena and survive 7 waves. Between waves you pick one Fracturing Shard effect (Escalating Threats, Apex Predators, or Pure Emotions) that applies to all remaining waves.

  5. Collect rewards

Each wave drops at least one Liquid Emotion; the final wave drops a Simulacrum-exclusive unique and 1-2 Raven's Reflection. Clearing wave 7 also grants Delirium Atlas points and a key toward the Delirium pinnacle.

Before

Old flow (pre-0.5): a 15-wave Simulacrum opened via the Realmgate; the itemised Simulacrum was effectively removed.

After

Current flow (0.5): 300 splinters -> itemised Simulacrum -> applied to a 100%+ Delirious Atlas node -> 7-wave Simulacrum of Delusion.

The Realmgate path is historical; current Simulacrums are applied directly to a Delirious Atlas node.

VALID TARGET MATRIX

Where a Simulacrum applies

A Simulacrum only applies to an Atlas map node that is inside your Delirium fog and at 100% or higher Deliriousness. It is never placed in the Map Device.

Pre-use checklist

DoneCheckWhy it mattersQuick fix
Full 300 splinters combined

Confirm the itemised Simulacrum exists in your inventory, not loose splinter stacks.

Loose splinters below 300 will not open the encounter.Farm or buy splinters up to a full stack.
Node at 100%+ Deliriousness

Hover the target node and read its Deliriousness %; it must be 100 or higher.

Below 100% the Simulacrum will not apply.Clear more foggy maps on that node to push it to 100%+.
Node inside your fog

Confirm the node is covered by your Delirium fog bank.

A 100% node outside the fog is not a valid target.Spread fog onto the node with a Grand Mirror first.
Build can clear wave 7

Verify your character survives 200% Deliriousness content before committing the item.

The Simulacrum is consumed on apply; a failed run wastes it.Sell the splinter stack instead if your build is not ready.

OVERVIEW

Current 0.5 flow vs the historical 15-wave Simulacrum

Current 0.5 flow: 300 Simulacrum Splinters (auto-combine in inventory) -> itemised Simulacrum -> applied to an Atlas map node at 100%+ Deliriousness inside your fog -> Simulacrum of Delusion, a 7-wave encounter (Deliriousness 100% at wave 1 rising to 200% at wave 7).

HISTORICAL (pre-0.5 - do not follow): the Simulacrum was a 15-wave encounter opened through the Realmgate, and the itemised Simulacrum was removed. Any guide quoting 15 waves or a Realmgate slot is using old Path of Exile 1 / pre-0.5 numbers.

Between waves in the current version you pick one Fracturing Shard effect (Escalating Threats adds a modifier, Apex Predators adds a boss, Pure Emotions adds monster packs) that applies to all remaining waves.

  • Current: item applied to a 100%+ Delirious Atlas node, 7 waves.
  • Historical: Realmgate, 15 waves, no itemised Simulacrum.
  • Any '15 waves / Realmgate' instruction is out of date for 0.5.

reddit simulacrum openReddit question

Where do I open the Simulacrum in 0.5 - the Map Device does nothing?

A player tried to socket the Simulacrum into the Map Device and it did not work.
Editorial analysis

In 0.5 the Simulacrum is a currency item applied directly to a 100%+ Delirious Atlas node, not placed in the Map Device like a Waystone.

Our answer

Right-click the Simulacrum, then left-click a fog node at 100% or higher Deliriousness to transform it.

How to apply
I
timesaver grand mirrorGuide observation

I applied the Simulacrum on a 200% map and it turned into a Grand Mirror instead - why?

A player was confused when a high-Deliriousness node behaved like a Grand Mirror interaction.
Editorial analysis

A node at 100%+ Deliriousness is exactly the Simulacrum target, but the same fog bank is also what the Grand Mirror uses to spread fog. The transform happens when you apply the Simulacrum item specifically to that node; simply having 200% fog does not auto-open the encounter.

Our answer

Apply the itemised Simulacrum to the 100%+ node to open the encounter; the Grand Mirror is a separate fog-spreading interaction.

My video shows 15 waves but the game only has 7 - which is right?

A player saw conflicting wave counts between old videos and the current client.
Editorial analysis

Patch 0.5 cut the Simulacrum from 15 waves to 7. Old videos quoting 15 waves are pre-0.5 and should be ignored for current mechanics.

Our answer

The current Simulacrum of Delusion is a 7-wave encounter.

PROBLEMS & DIRECT ANSWERS

Problems and direct answers

Map Device does nothing with the Simulacrum

Direct answer: The Simulacrum is a currency item, not a Waystone; it is applied to a 100%+ Delirious Atlas node, not the Map Device.

  1. Open the Atlas, find a fog node at 100%+ Deliriousness, right-click the Simulacrum, then left-click that node.
Simulacrum will not apply to the node

Direct answer: The node is either outside your fog or below 100% Deliriousness - both block the apply.

  1. Hover the node to confirm fog coverage and 100%+ Deliriousness; spread more fog if needed.
Only 15 waves in my old video, game shows 7

Direct answer: Patch 0.5 reduced the Simulacrum to 7 waves. The 15-wave version is historical.

  1. Follow the current 7-wave flow; ignore pre-0.5 Realmgate guides.
No splinters dropping from Delirium

Direct answer: Many current guides report Simulacrum Splinters only drop after allocating the Delirium Atlas passive 'Is This About Me or You?'. Verify against your in-game Atlas tree.

  1. Open the Delirium part of your Atlas tree and confirm the splinter passive is allocated.

PATCH HISTORY

Patch history

0.5.3

Simulacrums now start at 100% Delirious, scaling to 200% by wave 7. Simulacrum maps spawn when the fog bank reaches 100% Deliriousness, and shards appear between waves for a single selection.

0.5.1 (Hotfix 5)

Simulacrums generated on map nodes that grant Atlas Passive Skill Points return to their original area after completion and need no Deliriousness to enter (quest version excluded).

0.5.0 (Return of the Ancients)

Simulacrum updated to a 7-wave encounter; completing it grants a key to the Delirium pinnacle boss.

0.3.0 (historical context)

Pinnacle access moved to splinter stacks; this is the era of the old 15-wave / Realmgate Simulacrum flow.
